Martin Lang is a traditional Blues harp player based in Chicago, performing at clubs and festivals including Chicago Blues Fest, and who records for Random Chance Records (NYC) with three albums Bad Man, Ain't No Notion and Chicago Blues Harp Sessions to date. Lang is a leading player in the post-war amplified Blues style, honed over 25 years behind the legendary Chicago Bluesman Taildragger. Also a veteran session player with Chicago’s Delmark Records, Martin Lang has toured Europe and the United States alongside blues legends such as Pinetop Perkins, Robert Jr. Lockwood, Sam Lay, Willie Smith and Dave Myers. Lang’s playing has appeared on records with John Brim Sr., Little Arthur, and many more. He has performed at the King Biscuit Blues Festival, Mississippi Saxophone Festival and more.
Martin arrived in Chicago as a teenager enamored with blues, into the Chicago blues scene in the 1990s, gleaning the knowledge that can only be hard won from original players over the next decades. Today, his playing is great example of Chicago blues harp.
BAD MAN BLUES BAND
The rhythm section is anchored by drummer Dean Haas, who supplied the groove for Jimmy Rogers for 35 years, for most of Rogers's Chicago gigs. Haas is also featured on Lang's three albums. The other half of the rhythm section is bassist Illinois Slim (also a harp and guitar player in the style of Chicago's Eddie Taylor). "Slim adds a feel for real old-time blues, including slow blues, that is unmatched," says Lang. Guitarists include Grammy-winners Billy Flynn and Little Frank. Billy Flynn has been a mainstay on the Chicago blues circuit since the mid-80's, and has released his own albums on Delmark Records and other labels. He has worked with Blues greats like Jimmy Dawkins, Little Arthur Duncan, Billy Boy Arnold and many, many more. Little Frank Krakowski started playing Blues when he was a young teenager, and has performed with nationally-touring artists, in the traditional blues vein, including Paul Oscher, Kim Wilson and more. These esteemed Bluesmen have performed at many Chicago venues, as well as worldwide, committing their lives to bringing Chicago Blues to audiences.
